Assumptions
- Crushed stone density defaults near 1,600 kg/m³ (≈ 100 lb/ft³) depending on type.
- Compaction reduces volume after placement — depth is target compacted thickness.
- Driveways often use 4–6 in base layers; paths may use 2–3 in.
- Delivery is quoted in tons or cubic yards depending on supplier.
- Does not include geotextile or edging.

How to measure
Measure the paved area length and width. Depth should reflect the compacted layer specified for your use — ask your supplier for driveway base recommendations.

- Using loose-fill depth without accounting for compaction (order slightly high).
- Mixing metric density with US area units without conversion.
- Confusing short tons with metric tonnes on international quotes.
